Buy Side Liquidity (BSL) refers to clusters of stop losses sitting above obvious swing highs, equal highs, or resistance zones. These are stops from short sellers who placed their stop losses above resistance. Institutions push price up to collect this liquidity before reversing lower. BSL is often the target of a bullish move and a potential short entry zone after the sweep.

How to Trade BSL

Identify BSL by finding equal highs, previous swing highs, or obvious resistance levels. When you are in a long trade, BSL levels above are your profit targets — price is being driven toward them. When price sweeps BSL (breaks above the highs then closes back below), look for bearish SMC confirmation: a CHoCH on the lower timeframe indicates the reversal. Enter short below the BSL sweep candle.

Real Example — XAUUSD

Example: Price has been rejected twice at 3350 creating equal highs (BSL). Short sellers have stops above 3352. Price sweeps to 3356 grabbing the BSL, then sells off hard closing below 3348 — shorts are stopped out, institutions are now short. Enter short below 3348 with SL above 3357.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Buy Side Liquidity (BSL) in trading?
Buy Side Liquidity refers to clusters of stop loss orders placed by short sellers above obvious swing highs, equal highs, or resistance zones. Institutions push price into these zones to trigger those stops and collect liquidity before reversing price lower.
How is BSL used as a profit target?
In a bullish SMC setup, BSL levels above current price are used as take profit targets. If you enter a long from a bullish OB or FVG after a BOS, the next BSL level above (equal highs, previous swing high) is a logical target because institutions are driving price toward that liquidity.
Can you trade the BSL sweep directly?
Yes. When price sweeps BSL and closes back below, it creates a high-probability short setup. Wait for bearish confirmation on the lower timeframe (CHoCH, MSS, bearish engulfing) before entering short. The stop loss goes above the sweep wick. This is one of the cleanest SMC setups.
